Dr Samira Syed – Trustee & Medical Advisor to the Committee

Dr Samira Syed is a Consultant Paediatric Dermatologist at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) and holds the position of Trustee with the role of Medical Advisor to the Birthmark Support Group committee.

With specialist expertise in caring for children with birthmarks and other complex skin conditions, Dr Syed brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the charity. She works closely with families every day, supporting them through diagnosis, treatment options, and ongoing care, and is passionate about improving understanding and support for children with visible differences.

Dr Syed has contributed to national and international research on paediatric dermatology, authored and co-authored peer-reviewed publications, and presented at leading medical conferences. She has also been actively involved in developing training for GPs and other healthcare professionals, helping to improve early recognition and referral pathways for children with vascular anomalies and birthmarks.

In her trustee role, Dr Syed provides trusted clinical guidance to ensure our information and resources are accurate and up to date. She also plays a key part in strengthening links between the medical community and the charity, helping us build partnerships with hospitals, GPs, and other professionals.

Her dedication to the Birthmark Support Group reflects her commitment to ensuring every child and family feels informed, supported, and never alone on their journey.
